36 squares and 32 Good Wishes .....

We have received 36 squares and 32 Good Wishes.

Thanks to all of my Internet friends:) for helping us get closer to that goal of "100" !!!

We have received really beautiful squares and wishes. Updates including photos of the squares coming soon. I can't wait to share them all with you.

Now that my self-created swap frenzy has slowed down. (Most of my squares & wishes will be reaching the mail tomorrow), I will finally be sending out ladybug quilt letters to family and friends.

At last! I can sit, relax, and wait for more beautiful squares and wishes to arrive.

On your mark! Get set! Go! I'll race you to the mailbox!!

Quilt Swaps and More Quilt Swaps

Quilt Swap Frenzy

Today, I decided to count my good wishes and squares. To date I have received 28 squares and 26 good wishes!!!! Each wish and square is unique, just as I hope the quilt will be.

One problem

I have become addicted to quilt swapping. Ask me how I know.

I am currently participating in the following swaps:

One on one swaps (Just like it reads. You send me one, I send you one)
China Province Swap (Includes facts about the different provinces and holidays in China within the good wish. Fabric represents an individual province or holiday.)
Pastel Swap (Easy one! Anything pastel color)
State Swap (Includes facts about each State in the USA within the good wish. Fabric represents an individual State)
February DTC "OHGWQ" Yahoo Swap (Easy one. Fabric can have any theme)

Swaps coming Up
March DTC "OHGWQ" Yahoo Swap (Easy one. Fabric can have any theme)

Finished Swaps
Adoption.com's, China Forum, 100 Good Wishes Swap

What's so funny?????????????

Stop laughing at me!!!!!!!!

All right. All right.

I am not the only one:) I emailed a member from one of the groups, who will remain anonymous, and told her this would be my last swap and that I had also promised Mike it would be. Well, she emailed me back to tell me she had just promised her husband the same thing.

I printed up the mailing lists for four of the swaps and using my keen observational skills noticed something remarkable. More than one person is particpating in at least three of the swaps.

The problem.

How can I keep track of what fabric I have already sent out to avoid sending someone the same fabric more than once.

It takes the skill of an organzier (Ha!)
Different Highlighters (Do-able)
Mulitple Printouts of Swaps Cross-referenced by Name. (Really)
Emails (To find out exactly what fabric I did send out)

A system not quite perfected but getting there. To date I have sent out 34 squares & wishes, and currently have 38 squares and wishes being prepared to be mailed out.

I was worried about what I would do while I waited?

Here are samples of the good wishes and fabric we exchanged with our internet friends

Bai Jia Bei, “100 Good Wishes Quilt”

To welcome and celebrate a new life, there is a tradition in some parts of Northern China, to make a Bai Jia Bei, “100 Good Wishes Quilt.” When a baby is born, family and friends donate to the child's mother fabric scraps from old clothing with a written wish for the new baby. A quilt for the child would be made from the scraps. It is said that the luck, energy and good wishes from all of the families and friends who contributed the fabric surrounds the child when she is wrapped in the quilt. The quilt is then passed down from generation to generation. Collecting 100 squares may be a challenge but we are off to a pretty good start. We currently have twenty-five, "25" squares and good wishes from our adoption.com, CCAI & Yahoo group internet friends. Good wishes we received so far included swatches of fabric, poems, bible verses, a favorite saying or quote, advice, etc. The fabric will become a quilt for our daughter (once I learn how to quilt-Ha!Ha!)The good wishes will be incorporated into a special “Good Wishes” memory book for our daughter.

Friends & Family are next:) Be on the look-out for your "100 Good Wishes Quilt Invite".

With the help of our wish photographer,"Dad", and quilt photograph organizer,"Christie", we present the wishes and fabric we received. Because of blog limitations you must view the next post to see the rest.

Mike gets involved in making this quilt post happen.
